As in previous examples, the basic structure of this house dates back to the 16th century approximately. Manuel Gaviño and his wife Lola, together with Manuel’s parents, are the current inhabitants, in a house where not long ago several families from the popular neighbourhood Alcázar Viejo lived.
An ancient wooden doors leads us to the small entrance hallway, decorated with numerous flower pots, which takes us to the Courtyard on 14, San Basilio Street. A portico consisting of three arches supported by stone columns welcomes us to the courtyard. Inside the portico itself there is a small and steep stairway leading us to the higher floor. The arches are painted in light yellow to distinguish them from the whiteness of the walls, and Manuel claims that that has been its colour for a long time.
The courtyard is decorated with numerous red pots, more than 600, covering almost the whole of the white walls, but it provides the place with great colour, and we can highlight, among others, the following plants: geraniums, salad plants, asparagus plants, ferns, spider plants, aspidistras…
Besides, the Courtyard on 14, San Basilio Street has concrete floor because the older women who previously lived here asked the owner to remove the pebbles for fear of falling down. The rooms are arranged around it. Among these rooms, we can get to the old washing rooms, which seem to be unaltered by time, as their washing sinks are perfectly preserved. This room is also like a small museum, with the old irons and keys hanging on the walls.
The old communal kitchen also catches the visitor’s attention, as it has all kind of utensils, as if it was a rural museum: coffee grinder, irons for clothes, oil lamps, braziers, pliers…
