21, Pozanco Street.

Very close to San Agustín Square we can find Pozanco Street, where Elisa Pérez, the owner of the courtyard located on number 21, is waiting for us. This building was previously known as “House of the Salt“, it was also an expropriated convent in 1835, when it is thought to have become a neighbours’ house. “Up to ten families have lived here“, tells Elisa.

We get inside through a long and narrow corridor, covered in its first part, whose floor consists of the classical pebbles typical from Córdoba, but the old type, which gives it a beautiful and ancient appearance, thus making us feel as if time has not passed. Dozens of plants cover the walls of the corridor, and they are even on the floor. “Right here there was a carriages exit, and those rooms were garages“, tells Elisa, pointing at some rooms in the house.

Once inside the Courtyard on 21, Pozanco Street we can highlight a beautiful lemon tree, which occupies most of the place, as it is a small courtyard. We can also see, on the left side of the courtyard, that the floor has clay tiles, whereas on the other side, the typical pebbles from Córdoba we mentioned before are used. From this area, we have the feeling that a well emerges, as it has a quite irregular shape, although it is whitewashed as many other typical wells. But it also stands out because there is a water dispenser on one side and not the traditional bucket where water is carried, but it is completely full of plants and it looks like a big stone flower pot, which makes us think that it is not the typical well or that it has been turned into a fountain.

Elisa tells us that “apart from filling the courtyard with flower pots, I have hung them on the walls; I remember my father saying that the walls looked nicer if they were white, bare, to which my mother used to answer that it was clear he had been grown up in a barracks”. “In the courtyard I have all kinds of flowers, from geraniums tocyclamens, double and simple diamela jasmines, begonias, gardenias, calla lilies…“.
