If we follow the suggested itinerary, we get to one of the most historical streets in the city, Rey Heredia Street, in honour to a distinguished Mathematics and Philosophy Professor from Córdoba.

As a curiosity, we can see a Roman column in one of the corners of the street, where we can read an inscription referring to the building of the old Roman Theatre in Córdoba (this is explained in detail in the section dedicated to Roman Córdoba).

This is a public space; in fact, it houses the headquarters of several public organizations in the city, such as the Tourist ConsortiumCórdoba Ecuestre (Equestrian Córdoba), and many others.

The building is thought to have belonged to the old Convent of Santa Clara, founded by St Clare Sisters and with a previous Islamic structure. It has several courtyards. The first one is different to the rest, and we can highlight the gallery and the bricked pillars, with a tiled floor and several blue pots hanging with geraniums, etc.

In the following courtyards all the woodwork, blinds and closures are white, as well as the façade and even the floor, thus highlighting and emphasizing the colour of the vegetation. As an innovation in these courtyards pots are not used, but linear attached jardinieres and plants on the floor instead. There are also several ledges to sit. The smallest one is called the “Courtyard of the Well” because a well appeared during the works which modified the original idea. It has been fenced with bars in the shape of a cage from which several mirrors hang. The middle one is the “Courtyard of the Pool” and the biggest one, of approximately 200 square metres is where different events are celebrated. One of its walls is covered by aromatic plants, another one with miniature roses and another one with jasmine.

In May 2012 it was fully remodeled, with the objective of fitting it for cultural meetings and use, especially related to flamenco.

If you wish to know the Courtyards in Córdoba do not hesitate to hire one of our guided tours. We will pay special attention to the Courtyard on 22, Rey Heredia Street.
