3, La Palma Street.

We head for the neighbourhood of San Pedro itself, very close to the church after which it is named, the Minor Basilica of San Pedro. It is a medieval neighbourhood, as well as the nearby neighbourhood of Santiago; they were both demarcated by Fernando III the Saint after reconquering the city in 1236.

We are received there by Manuel Cachinero, a sculptor who has been living in this amazing majestic house from the 18h century since he bought the building in the 80s. He told us: “I always wanted to live in an old house, with columns, and now, look at me, I got it; living here is priceless”.

The Courtyard on 3, Palma Street can be accessed through a great stone entrance, whose doors are set back in order to open them outside. The floor in the hallways still preserves the footprints from the horse carriages, and we can even see the rings where the reins were tied.

Once inside we are in a rectangular courtyard, which is not very big and has high walls. We can highlight a well parapet following the Arab tradition, which is a copy of another caliphal one from the 10th century, but it has been in the house since it was built. This well provides with water for the plants on a daily basis. It is also very interesting the old horse trough turned into a fountain by Manuel himself.

As for the vegetation, we can highlight an impressive bougainvillae in front of the entrance, which, together with the wisterias, the climbing plants and a miniature yellow rose plant, give this courtyard a very special style. We must also add the lemon tree and the mandarine tree that, according to Manuel, were already there when he arrived.

We will finish this brief analysis by saying that this courtyard has become one of the main models within the contest for its own merits; we just need to take a look at the amount of prizes it has been awarded along the years, the last one, in 2014.
