Very MarianSacramental Brotherhood of the Immaculate Conception, Holy Rosary and Brotherhood of Nazarenes of Our Father Jesus of Faith in his Last Supper and Holy Mary of Hope in the Valley.
HISTORY.
This is the only brotherhood in the city that worships the Evangelical mystery of the institution of the Eucharist, and also the first one in the neighbourhood of Poniente, where it arrived after a long period in the Parish of San Juan y Todos los Santos (Trinidad),from its foundation in 1985 until 2000. Although nowadays it is going through a moment of splendour, this brotherhood has experienced some crises that almost made it disappear.
TEMPLE.
Parish of San Álvaro de Córdoba. It is a new parish in the modern neighbourhood of Poniente. It is dedicated to Beato Álvaro de Córdoba (Beatified Álvaro of Córdoba), the Dominican who founded the convent of Scala Coeliin the mountains of the city, from which he led a reform of the preachers, after a trip to Holy Land. He established the prayer of the Stations of the Cross in the West.
THE IMAGES.
Nuestro Padre Jesús de la Fe (Our Father Jesus of Faith) – [PHOTO #1; #2]
The image of Nuestro Padre Jesús de la Fe (Our Father Jesus of Faith) was made by Miguel Ángel González Jurado in 1993. This image substituted the one made by sculptor Francisco Palos Chaparro from Puente Genil in 1987.
It is a full sculpture made in cedar wood, conceived to be dressed, standing and holding the chalice with both hands. He is looking at the front, with his eyebrows slightly frowned and his mouth half-opened. His well-carved beard and his hair, which falls down his back, are his most characteristic features. He is wearing a white tunic and a maroon velvet mantle, with golden-thread belt.
The pace is completed with the figures of the Apostles, also made by Miguel Ángel González Jurado around 1996. Each Apostle has been individually conceived and has his own specific features, but without losing the idea of a group. Their faces show the dramatic atmosphere of the moment, when Jesus is telling them that one of them will betray him.
María Santísima de la Esperanza del Valle (Holy Mary of Hope in the Valley).
Although it does not go on procession, Nuestra Señora del Valle (Our Lady of the Valley) is a main image of the brotherhood. Its author is anonymous and it is thought to date back to the 19th century, probably from the workshop of Juan de Astorga.
It is difficult to establish a stylistic analysis, or to try carry out a chronological assessment as we do not know the condition of the image before being restored by Juan Ventura around 1983.
Only her hands and face are carved. She has a straight nose, prominent chin and straight and long eyebrows. Her complexion is pale, and her cheeks and eyes are reddened due to her tears and the contained pain.
