The entrance to the Dining Room usually causes a slight confusion in the visitor, due to the exceptional Renaissance ceiling made with octagonal pinewood alcoves, a stunning composition which attracts all eyes. Until recently, the ceiling was painted in black, but it recovered its original colour in one of the last restorations of the house.
On the left wall there is one of the oldest carpets in Viana Palace, decorated with geommetrical zig-zag elements, made in Cuenca in the 15th century. Right below it, we can see a simple conventual table with several porcelain pieces, flanked by two friar armchairs.
The next wall has a Plateresque fireplace decorated with the crest of the Saavedra, and surrounding it, up to three framed heraldic tiles from the 15th century, out of the nine we can find in the Dining Room. On the remaining walls, we can see sketches of portraits of Alfonso XIII wearing the uniform of Hussar of Pavía, Cavalry and Artillery. Sorolla painted him with the uniform of the second marquis of Viana, who was at the moment Lieutenant Colonel of Artillery.
In a glass cabinet a scroll is displayed with the famous speech King Alfonso XIII wrote, dedicated to the reforms of the communications in the province, which was read at the Círculo de la Amistad on the 23rd May 1921. In the centre, there is a conventual table with friar armchairs, located on a Fundación Generalísimo carpet.
Finally, we should also mention a beautiful ceramic water pitcher from Alcora (Castellón) made in the 18th century. In this case, it is an object which is no longer in use, but we can appreciate the hole through which water came and the small container where diners washed their hands before and after the meal.
