The Hall of the Signatures is named after the 17th-century desk, with richly decorated legs, in which they kept the book where all distinguished guests visiting the house signed. Nowadays the book is not shown, as it is not kept in this hall, but very important figures signed on it, such as Queen Fabiola de Mora y Aragón, Queen Sofía, when she was still Princess of Spain, or General Franco himself. A column-lamp, a bronze inkstand and other objects are also part of the desk.
The floor of the Hall of the Signatures is partially covered by a large Persian carpet, and from the ceiling there hangs a beautiful chandelier made in bronze from the 19th century, similar to other three ones, located in the Hall of the Madrileños (which cannot be visited), in the Hall of Tobías and in the Almiral’s Bedroom (which cannot be visited). The light plaster vault has a frieze with fresco paintings, decorated with garlands, scallop shells, vegetable elements and ovals containing allegories of the four continents: Europe, Asia, Africa and America.
Among the different pieces of furniture in the hall –sofa with polychrome decoration, traditional Spanish chairs and small tables, chests of drawers, armchairs, shutters- we can highlight two Italian Baroque cupboards, with a style close to neoclassical, with golden ironwork, located on both sides of the desk of signatures.
We should also mention a series of six paintings on copper, from the Flemish school of the 17th century, more specifically from the circle of the famous Flemish Baroque painter Frans Francken II, representing scenes related to the Life and Passion of Christ, such as “Marriage at Cana“.
Next to the door leading to the Hall of Tobías, we can find a foldable chair with high back, finished on both sides with decorated shells. Both the back and the seat are upholstered with embossing and polychrome leather.
