Flamenco Center Fosforito
The Fosforito Flamenco Center is located in one of the most interesting and visited places in our city, the Plaza del Potro, more specifically, in the Posada del Potro, a 16th-century building declared a site of artistic interest.
In the Middle Ages, the Plaza del Potro was the most important commercial hub of the city; not surprisingly, many of the artisan guilds of Córdoba were concentrated there. This led to the establishment of numerous businesses (taverns, inns, lodgings…) around the exchange of money that flowed freely in the area. It is believed that our inn was a place frequented by rogues and women of easy virtue—something permitted by the authorities of the time, it must be said.
With its whitewashed façade and lintelled entrance, the inn features an irregular, almost rectangular patio inside, around which all the rooms are arranged on two levels, now museum galleries. The white walls contrast with the wooden railings, doors, and windows, as well as with the vibrant colors of the numerous flowerpots that decorate the space.
The Fosforito Flamenco Center was inaugurated in June 2013 by the flamenco singer from Córdoba after whom it is named, providing the city with a much-needed cultural and touristic facility. The museum not only focuses on the artist Fosforito but also highlights flamenco from Córdoba and Andalusia as a way of life and a top-tier artistic expression. Let’s visit it.
The Museum Rooms
Room I: Flamenco Through Time: Milestones and Figures
The museum’s first room. We enter it immediately to the right. Here, visitors are introduced to the world of flamenco from a historical perspective, exploring its possible origins and the most important figures and milestones throughout history. Everything is highly interactive. Artists such as Antonio Chacón, La Niña de los Peines, Antonio Mairena, Carmen Amaya, Paco de Lucía… are immortalized in iron portraits.
Room II: Elements of Flamenco
The next room is located on the other side of the central patio. Once you’ve learned the history and main figures of flamenco, it’s time to delve into its essential elements: singing, guitar playing, and dancing, along with percussion and jaleos, which are fundamental to the texture and final nature of flamenco. Three interactive tables allow visitors to explore textual and multimedia elements to understand their relationships and behaviors.
Room III: Keys to Flamenco
Do you dare to engage with flamenco, to feel it? The formal richness of flamenco is closely linked to its rhythmic structures and the apparent complexity of the relationships between guitar, voice, and dance. In this room, the visitor comes into direct contact with the flamenco art… Do you want to?
Room IV: Fosforito Room
After learning about the history of flamenco, its main figures, and engaging directly with the art itself… it’s time to meet one of the great figures of flamenco in Córdoba, Antonio Fernández Díaz “Fosforito“. This room displays his discography, awards, personal belongings… and the key to the city of Córdoba.

The square is easily accessible, as it is very close to the Paseo de la Ribera, a street that runs alongside the Guadalquivir River through Córdoba. If arriving from the city center, for example from Plaza de las Tendillas, you only need to cross two streets, C/ Claudio Marcelo and C/ San Fernando.
