Love

Royal Brotherhood and Confraternity of the Most Holy Christ of Love, Our Father Jesus of Silence in the Scorn of Herod, and Most Holy Mary of the Incarnation.

History

The Brotherhood of Love was founded in 1955 in the parish of Jesús Divino Obrero with the support of Bishop Fray Albino. It carried out its first penitential procession on Palm Sunday in 1957, as the one planned for 1956 was suspended due to rain. In 1981, the image of Our Lady of the Incarnation was blessed and became co-patroness of the brotherhood alongside the Christ of Love the following year.

In 1984, the first all-female team of costaleras in Andalusia was formed. In 1991, the image of Our Father Jesus of Silence was added as co-patron to the brotherhood. This image belonged to a failed confraternity from Cádiz and arrived in the Cerro neighborhood thanks to Fray Ricardo of Córdoba, the artistic director of the confraternity.

Temple

Parish of Jesús Divino Obrero. Built in the mid-20th century, it is located in the central part of Campo de la Verdad and at the beginning of the so-called El Cerro neighborhood.

The Patrons

Most Holy Christ of Love

The Most Holy Christ of Love is an anonymous 16th-century work, restored by Luis Álvarez Duarte around 1984. It is slightly smaller than life-size and represents Christ dead on the Cross. With very accurate anatomy, His head falls to the right.

The perizoma stands out, although a bit small, tied on the left side, typical of Renaissance crucifixes. The current Cross is a 1991 work by Guzmán Bejarano, arboreal in style, with a titulum and gilded corner pieces.

The sculpture belonged to the 16th-century brotherhood of the Holy Crucifix, based in the Hermitage of San José, in the parish of Magdalena.

Its first penitential procession took place in 1956, accompanied by the Virgin of Sorrows and a Saint John, forming a Calvary. Until recently, it processed alone, but now these images accompany the Christ of Love on the processional float.

Our Father Jesus of Silence in the Scorn of Herod

Our Father Jesus of Silence is the work of the Cádiz sculptor Luis Ortega Bru, carved in 1982 shortly before his death. It is a dressed image, standing, with hands bound and head slightly turned to the right.

He gazes downward in a submissive attitude. Currently, the image of the Lord is dressed in a white robe with gold embroidery.

In the mystery float, behind the Lord, there are other figures such as Herod himself or a torturer, designed by Ortega Bru and sculpted by Manuel Téllez.

Most Holy Mary of the Incarnation

The image of Most Holy Mary of the Incarnation was created around 1980 by the Seville sculptor Luis Álvarez Duarte, a disciple of Francisco Buiza, who was the author of works such as the Virgin of Mercy and the Christ of the Crowning with Thorns in Córdoba.

Álvarez Duarte sculpted a young sorrowful Virgin, with a downcast gaze, tearful eyes, and an almost submissive demeanor before the fate awaiting her son. Her brow is barely furrowed, nose straight, and mouth slightly open.

Nazarene Habit

Cream-colored tunic and scapular, black face covering and cape, and black leather belt.
