Presentation to the People

Dominican Brotherhood of the Blessed Sacrament and Nazarene Confraternity of Our Father Jesus of the Afflicted in His Sacred Presentation to the People, Our Lady Queen of Heaven and Mercy, and Saint Vincent Ferrer.

History

It was the year 2006 when a group of neighbors from the Cañero neighborhood came together with a common concern: to found a brotherhood in the Parish of Saint Vincent Ferrer. In May of that same year, the first meeting was held with the parish priest, Fr. Manuel Vida Ruiz, to present the project, which was received with interest. Subsequently, Fr. Pedro Soldado Barrios, Diocesan Delegate of Brotherhoods and Confraternities, also showed his approval, requesting parish supervision.

In 2007, the journey began as a parish group, developing a Christian formation project, collaborating with the various parish groups, carrying out charitable works, and creating the San Vicente Ferrer Rociero Choir.

In 2010, the then Bishop of Córdoba, Monsignor Demetrio Fernández González, named the group a Pro-Brotherhood for a period of three years. During this stage, the coat of arms of the confraternity and the mystery to be represented were approved, choosing the passage of the Sacred Presentation of the Lord to the People, and the statutes were drawn up.

On November 14, 2013, it was named a Brotherhood Ad Experimentum. A year later, on April 21, 2014, the contract was signed for the making of the titular image of Christ, a work by the sculptor Manuel Martín Nieto.

On February 26, 2016, the Brotherhood was officially approved as a Brotherhood and Confraternity of Córdoba. On March 5, the image of Our Father Jesus of the Afflicted was blessed, and a few days later it was transferred to its chapel. On March 19 of that same year, the first processional outing took place through the streets of the Cañero neighborhood.

In February 2018, the Brotherhood joined the Association of Brotherhoods and Confraternities of Córdoba. After several years of growth, in September 2025 its incorporation into the list of Holy Monday processions was officially announced, taking part in the Holy Week of Córdoba starting in 2026.

Temple

Parish Church of Saint Vincent Ferrer, popularly known as the Church of Cañero. It was built in the mid-20th century and blessed on March 24, 1956, by Bishop Fray Albino. It is located in Cañero Square and serves as the main religious center of the neighborhood.

The Titular Images

Our Father Jesus of the Afflicted in His Sacred Presentation to the People

The image is the work of the Sevillian sculptor Manuel Martín Nieto, made of cedar wood and blessed in 2016. It represents the Gospel moment in which Pontius Pilate presents Jesus to the people after the scourging and the crowning with thorns, the well-known passage of the Ecce Homo. It stands out for its realism, carefully applied polychromy, and the majesty of its expression.

Inside, it holds a parchment with the names of brothers and neighborhood residents who contributed to its acquisition. The mystery will be completed in the future with a total of six figures, with the statues of Pilate and a Roman soldier debuting in 2022.

Our Lady Queen of Heaven and Mercy

The Marian image of the Brotherhood is currently in the process of being created by the sculptor Darío Fernández Parra, with delivery to the corporation expected during Lent of 2027.

Saint Vincent Ferrer

Titular image of the parish, blessed after the inauguration of the church in 1956. The Brotherhood has included him as a titular since its founding. Saint Vincent Ferrer, a Dominican from Valencia in the 14th century, was a great preacher and thaumaturge, attributed with numerous miracles and the well-known gift of tongues.

Nazarene Habit

White tunic and face cover with Dominican coat of arms and black esparto belt.

Brotherhood Groups

The Brotherhood has an active Youth Group, founded in 2013, which plays a prominent role in organizing worship services, processions, charitable actions, and parish activities. Alongside it, the groups of lady sacristans, priory and stewardship, and collaborating brothers stand out as fundamental to the daily life of the corporation.

Music

The mystery paso of Our Father Jesus of the Afflicted is accompanied by the Musical Group Our Father Jesus of the Redemption of Córdoba.
