Living Room Dining Room

The entrance to the Dining Hall often causes slight confusion in those who visit, due to the exceptional Renaissance coffered ceiling made up of octagonal pinewood panels—an impressive composition that captures all attention. Until recently, the ceiling was painted black, but one of the house’s most recent restorations returned it to its original tone.

Decorative Elements and Furnishings

Hanging on the left wall is one of the oldest tapestries in the Viana Palace, decorated with geometric and zigzag patterns, made in Cuenca in the 15th century. Just below it is a simple monastic table holding several porcelain pieces, flanked by two friar-style armchairs.

The adjacent wall is presided over by a Plateresque-style fireplace decorated with the Saavedra family crest. Around it are up to three framed heraldic tiles from the 15th century, part of the nine housed in the Dining Hall. On the remaining walls, there are portrait sketches of Alfonso XIII dressed in uniforms of the Hussars of Pavia, Cavalry, and Artillery. Sorolla painted him wearing the military uniform of the second Marquis of Viana, who at the time was a Lieutenant Colonel of Artillery.

Featured Objects

Displayed in a glass cabinet is a parchment containing the famous speech written by King Alfonso XIII, dedicated to the improvement of provincial communications, delivered at the Circle of Friendship on May 23, 1921. At the center stands a monastic-style table with friar armchairs, placed atop a Generalísimo Foundation carpet.

Lastly, it is worth highlighting a beautiful 18th-century ceramic washbasin from Alcora (Castellón). Although this object is now obsolete, one can observe the water outlet hole and the small container where diners used to wash their hands before and after meals.
